Believe it or not, I managed to develop a roll of film in my own kitchen (with much success) yesterday. I bought some chemicals a week ago but only managed to load one of those traditional B&W films into the camera yesterday. To be honest, shooting 36 shots in 30 mins was something I wasn't used to. Then it was chemistry lessons all over again when I toyed with powders, beakers, thermometers, timers and mixing jugs. Just for kicks I also threw in some DIY chemicals such as rice vinegar and kitchen detergent. Works. And voila, the film did turn out pretty well.
A boring water tap.
Told you the film turned out pretty nicely.

Told you the film turned out pretty nicely. You know, some people ask me "What sort of photography do you do?" Nowadays I simply reply "Film" and they'll go "Ohhh. I see. Interesting. Really." That however, got me thinking - What am I good at? What do I specifically like to shoot? Shouldn't I make good use of my technical knowledge? And then I decided: I want to shoot food. Delicious-looking, saliva-inducing food.
I began my research on food photography on the net, placed an order for a book on Amazon, googled for nice images for inspiration etc. And yesterday I went around shopping for new table towels, kitchenware, paintbrushes and coloured paper. Later at night I bought a cheesecake and some fruits in the supermarket. I was ready to perform my virgin take on food photography. So after some light setting-up this afternoon, I shot a few images of the cake. It's not perfect, but I believe that it's a pretty good first try. Say hello to Ralverd's first work from 'Project Makan-Makan' (aka Project 'Eat').
